Not sure if this is accessible outside the UK, but ... at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00tylpk you can see a friend of mine
on the quiz show "Mastermind" with "The Life and Works of Charles M
Schulz" as her specialist subject.

Cool! It doesn't seem to be viewable where I am (New Jersey) but it's
still intriguing to know of its existence. I've thought before that if
I had to be on Mastermind that Peanuts would probably be my topic.

I'll transcribe the questions if you're interested.

OK, here they are. Those marked with asterisks are those which Min got
wrong (in at least one case because she misheard the question!)

- In a Peanuts strip of April 1960 Lucy van Pelt famously says that
happiness is what?
- What was the name of the family dog on whom Schulz claimed he based
the character of Snoopy?
- Which character declares he hates “good old Charlie Brown” in the
first Peanuts strip on the 2nd October 1950?
- What occupation was shared by the fathers of Charles Schulz and
Charlie Brown?
- Who composed the music for the 1965 animated television show “A
Charlie Brown Christmas”?
- What make of aeroplane does Snoopy pretend to fly in his guise as a
World War One flying ace?
- Which Peanuts character made his debut in 1954 with the words “I
haven’t got a name – people just call me things.”
- What’s the name of the ice arena on the outskirts of Santa Rosa that
was opened by Charles and Joyce Schulz in April 1969?
* What’s the name of the hustler who thrashes Rerun at marbles before
being confronted by Charlie Brown in April 1995?
- In 1929, the Schulz family relocated to which town in Southern
California that in the cartoon strip is the home of Snoopy’s brother
Spike?
* In his message to his readers in the final Peanuts Sunday strip,
Charles Schulz mentions Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy and which other
character and said “How can I ever forget them?”?
* Which artist, a colleague of Schulz’s from art instruction, worked
with him on the sports-oriented cartoon feature “It’s Only A Game” in
the late 1950s?
* Whom does Linus name as his family physician on a form for the
school office in a ‘61 Peanuts strip?
- What anniversary was repeatedly marked in the Peanuts strip on the
16th December?
- Schulz’s nickname “Sparky” was derived from the name of the horse
“Spark Plug” in which comic strip by Billy DeBeck?
* According to Charlie Brown in a strip from May ’52, under what
circumstances does a piano always sound better?
- Schulz was the first person to be honoured twice by the National
Cartoonist Society with their highest award for Outstanding Cartoonist
of the Year, in 1955 and then in 1964; what is the name of the award?

Incidentally, she went on to win the contest (scoring 16 in the
general knowledge round to total 28).

The Redwood Empire (known as "Snoopy's Home Ice") - might have been
allowed.

That's a real toughie, since the strip in question wasn't widely available
between its original publication date and the publication of the Complete
Peanuts.

Anyway, thanks for a great mental workout!

Curiously, once the answer was given, I thought this one wasn't too
hard. I later realised I was thinking of a different strip in which
Linus's (?) shoes were squeaking because they hadn't been paid for.

Yes, Linus. September 27, 1959. Even though that's a different strip,
I think you have a good point, because one could make an educated guess
on this basis.

I was thinking along different lines; had I actually been forced to guess,
I might have tried, "when accompanied by a cigar-box banjo." However,
I was pretty sure that wasn't right.
