Discussion:
Charlie Brown and Snoopy PSX Game?

A few years ago, perhaps 2001 or 2002, Sony showed a Charlie Brown/Snoopy
game at E3. It was for the original PlayStation, not the PS2, and it wasn't
a very good game. I never heard of it or saw it ever again, so I assume it
was canned, but as a collector of both videogames and Peanuts comic strip
books, I thought it might be nice to own.

Anyone have any leads about the developer or the possible whereabouts of a
beta/demo disk? I thought perhaps it had been released in Japan, where
Snoopy and Charlie Brown are/were also quite popular, but I haven't seen it
on any importer's Web site either. Maybe some developer lurking in the PS2
newsgroup worked on it. Or maybe some collector in the Peanuts group has
found a copy of it somewhere.

Thanks,

Mark

Can't help out, but I have to admit that I was and still am very fond of the
Peanuts comic strip. Good grief!

I know that Infogrames (now Atari) currently owns the license to Peanuts
video games and they have had it for several years. That being said,
the only game that they have released was Snoopy Tennis for Game Boy
Color. There were several others in the pipeline...if I remember
correctly, they were working on Snoopy Detective...but that has not been
released...

...Wait...I just did a Google Search...is this it???

...Snoopy Mania...

Man, I wonder if I am on here too much...LOL

I certainly don't remember the name being Snoopy Mania, but the shots look
like the game I was referring to. I remember the first shot especially
(running through the neighborhood avoiding obstacles) as well as a cafeteria
food fight game (not shown). I don't remember the other sequences pictured,
but from the looks of the screenshots, it seems as if the game was
finished/completed.

I wonder if there was a dispute with the syndicate or Schulz' estate that
caused Sony to cancel the game? It seems odd that they would cancel a
complete game, and not even release it in Japan, just because it didn't
focus test well or something. God knows Sony has allowed third-parties to
release a lot of other crappy games that should never have seen the light of
day (Dragon Rage, Pryzm: The Dark Unicorn, Fugitive Hunter...to name a few).

Thanks for the link--at least now I have a name to go along with the game.

No Problem, Mark.

Actually, I think this game was not created by Sony...but by Infogrames
(Atari). This is the first time I have seen any substantial information
about it. Perhaps the webmasters at gamershell.com can tell us who to
contact next. I would love to try a Snoopy Playstation game myself...so
if you ever hear of any beta versions available, please drop me a line.
